     Emily Ada Ward was born in 1869 in Henley, Oxfordshire, England.1 She married Frederick Arthur Middleton, son of William Middleton and Elizabeth Russell Standen, on 17 April 1892 in St Stephen, Walworth, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Frank Middleton and Kate Laurence. Frederick was a compositor his father William William Middleton was a slater. Emily's father T Ward was deceased.2 Her husband Frederick died on 1907 in Wandsworth, London, England.3 Emily died in 1926 in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England.4

     Henry Crowther purchased land in Gildersome from John Greathead in 1589. In those days lthere were large Gildersome and Morley clans whose trades included mining, smithing, tanning and cloth making. There was some family relationship between the Crowthers and Greatheds but as yet positive proof has not been found.1
